1. How Does Solarbank 2 AC Work?

1.1 What are the Benefits of AC Coupling and Solarbank 2 AC?
With AC coupling, tap into the advantages of solar power without completely overhauling your system. The technology seamlessly links solar power systems without storage to existing AC electrical systems.
Solarbank 2 AC uses the technology in conjunction with microinverters to convert all of that DC solar energy into usable AC power. A bypass route in Solarbank 2 AC directly powers home appliances with no efficiency loss.
It takes little time to install Solarbank 2 AC. There's minimal wiring, which speeds up setup and lowers installation costs.
1.2 How Solarbank 2 AC Works
Solarbank 2 AC connects your existing microinverter and solar panels via an AC outlet. Once connected, it can receive 800W of solar input, complying with German regulations.
After DC energy is converted into AC power, a bypass sends the energy into your home through the AC Schuko plug for maximum efficiency.
Set Up a Bypass to Power Home Appliances
If 800W solar input isn't enough, Solarbank 2 AC allows you to add 2 MPPT for an extra 1,200W. Connect the solar panels into the 2 MPPT ports on Solarbank 2 AC. That's a total of 2,000W of solar power!
The MPPT connection is thanks to Solarbank 2 AC's built-in inverter circuit, similar to Solarbank 2 Pro/Plus.
1.3 Who Should Use Solarbank 2 AC?
If you have a microinverter and solar panel, Solarbank 2 AC is for you. It's so simple to upgrade your solar panels to a solar power system with storage.

2. Does Solarbank 2 AC Support Bi-Directional Charging?

Yes, users can charge Solarbank 2 AC from their home grid by clicking on the manual power backup function in the Anker app.
To use bi-directional charge, update the Anker app to v3.3.1 (or later) and the Solarbank 2 AC firmware to v1.0.2.2 (or later).

3. How Solarbank 2 AC Manages Charging and Discharging?

Power Usage Priority
  • First: Solar power from microinverter.
  • Second: Solar power from two MPPT controllers.
  • Third: Battery power.
When Microinverter Power Exceeds Home Demand
  • Directly powers home appliances.
  • Excess power charges the battery.
When Total Solar Power Meets Home Demand
  • Microinverter power is used first to power appliances.
  • MPPT power is used second to cover remaining demand.
  • Excess MPPT power charges the battery.
  • Example: The home demand is 800W. The microinverter is sending 600W and the MPPT is providing 400W.
    • Microinverter sends 600W to the home.
    • MPPT sends 200W to the home and 200W to the battery.
When Total Solar Power is Less Than Home Demand
  • Power from the microinverter, MPPT controllers, and battery combine to meet home demand.

4. How Solarbank 2 AC Achieves Zero Energy Waste and Lowers Energy Bills

Solar panels generate energy during the day and send it to Solarbank 2 AC, which turns it into electricity for your home or stores it for later use.
The stored power in Solarbank 2 AC runs your home appliances at night, improving your solar energy self-consumption rate. This minimizes grid usage and keeps utility bills low.
Pair Solarbank 2 AC with a smart meter or smart plug to achieve zero energy waste and save even more money.
Solarbank 2 AC is compatible with Anker SOLIX Smart Meter, Shelly 3EM, and Shelly Pro 3EM. To use Shelly smart meters, update to the latest version in the Anker app.

If You Have a Solar Power System Without Storage
We recommend the first generation of Solarbank or the new Solarbank 2 E1600 AC. If you want battery storage, an AC-coupled product like Solarbank 2 AC is the best choice for its compatibility and installation ease.
If You Have No Solar Power
If you're looking for a brand new solar power system, we recommend a DC-coupled solution like Solarbank 2 Pro or Solarbank 2 Plus. They work well with their all-in-one design.
There are other differences between these four products, including connection methods, solar input, and expandable capacity. Click on the listings to check details.
